However, despite the tempting offers, the Giants stood firm in their decision to keep Barkley and put an end to the swirling rumors.

The contract negotiations between Barkley and the Giants had encountered a roadblock, leading to speculation that a trade might be on the horizon. Earlier in the offseason, the Giants had placed the franchise tag on Barkley but failed to reach a multi-year agreement before the July 17 deadline. This meant that Barkley was not expected to attend training camp. However, he surprised everyone by signing a new one-year contract, reportedly worth up to $11 million, on Tuesday.

In response to the trade rumors, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk revealed that the Giants had reached out to several teams, approximately a dozen, in search of potential trade partners. This was done at the request of Barkley's representation. Barkley himself took to social media to seemingly deny the claim made in Florio's report.

The Miami Dolphins had been actively pursuing star running backs throughout the offseason, with Barkley being one of the names linked to them. Another name on their radar was Dalvin Cook, but the Minnesota Vikings released him in June, and he remains unsigned.

In the 2022 season, Barkley showcased his undeniable talent as one of the premier running backs in the NFL. He amassed an impressive 1,650 scrimmage yards and scored a total of 10 touchdowns, which ultimately earned him his second Pro Bowl selection.

As Barkley and the Giants work towards resolving their contract situation, it is evident that he remains an invaluable asset to the team. He will undoubtedly continue to play a significant role in their offensive strategy for the upcoming season.
