Police in Alabama are set to share more details about the case of Carlee Russell, a 25-year-old woman who disappeared from the side of an Alabama interstate before returning home two days later. The Hoover Police Department will hold a press conference to address the unanswered questions surrounding Russell's disappearance. Russell was reported missing after calling 911 to report that she saw a toddler on the side of Interstate 459 in Hoover and was stopping to check on him. Despite a frantic search, Russell arrived home on foot two days later, leaving authorities puzzled about what happened to her during that time. Russell's parents appeared on NBC's Today show and claimed that their daughter was abducted and fought for her life. They urged authorities to inform the public if a kidnapper is at large. The press conference will take place at the Frank and Pam Barefield Training Center and will be live-streamed on the police department's Facebook page.

The police have been working diligently to retrace Russell's steps and determine her whereabouts during the two days she was missing. Russell called 911 at 9:34 p.m. and then went missing during a call with a relative two minutes later. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Russell's wig, cellphone, and purse, including her Apple Watch, on the road near her vehicle. Despite investigating the area, the police have found no evidence of a toddler walking on the interstate, contradicting Russell's initial report. They have also shared details about Russell's timeline leading up to her disappearance. She left work at The Summit mall and went to The Colonnade to pick up food she had ordered. Surveillance footage from Russell's neighborhood shows her walking alone before arriving home. Fire department radio traffic revealed that medics were dispatched to her residence for an "unresponsive but breathing" person, but when they arrived, Russell was conscious and speaking. Detectives are waiting for Russell to provide a more detailed statement and are evaluating numerous evidentiary items to determine what occurred during the 49 hours she was missing.
