Brittney Griner offers a priceless excuse for missed shot at WNBA All-Star game.

Brittney Griner jokes about missing shot in WNBA All-Star game.

Brittney Griner, a professional basketball player, provided a humorous explanation for missing a three-point shot during the WNBA All-Star game. The game took place at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, where the Team Wilson All-Stars faced off against the Team Stewart All-Stars. Griner was wearing a microphone and was engaging with the TV commentators while playing.

In the first quarter, with just over two minutes remaining, the 32-year-old received the ball and attempted a wide-open shot from beyond the three-point line. When asked about her enjoyment of the game, she enthusiastically replied, "I'm having a blast!" However, after missing the shot, she playfully joked, "There was something in my eye!" as she continued playing.

Despite the missed shot, Griner had an impressive performance, scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 26 minutes of play. Her efforts contributed to Team Stewart's 143-127 victory. Jewell Loyd was awarded the game's Most Valuable Player (MVP) title after scoring 31 points, setting a new record for the most points scored in an All-Star game. Additionally, Loyd made 10 three-pointers, achieving another unprecedented feat.

This All-Star game marked Griner's ninth selection, and her first since 2021. She was unable to participate in the 2022 game due to being detained in Russia. Griner expressed her gratitude for being able to compete in the All-Star Game and the WNBA once again in front of a sold-out crowd. She acknowledged the support she received from fans through letters, love, and social media posts, which gave her hope and motivation to continue pursuing her basketball career.

Griner's journey leading up to the All-Star game was not without challenges. In August of the previous year, she was sentenced to nine years in prison for carrying cannabis oil. She was subsequently transferred to a penal colony in Russia but was released in December as part of a prisoner exchange with the United States. Griner made her return to the basketball court in May 2022 and, two months later, participated in the All-Star game, bringing her immense joy and satisfaction.

Griner expressed her love for the game, her passion for competing, and her gratitude towards the fans who support the WNBA. She emphasized the importance of the fans' contributions to the league's success and expressed her honor to be a part of the All-Star game.

Following her outstanding performance, Loyd dedicated her record-breaking achievement to her parents, who had recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. She humorously stated that her performance served as a belated gift for their milestone, hoping it would be acceptable to them.
