Rivers is known for his devout Catholic faith, which has played a significant role in his life. He grew up in a Catholic environment and currently coaches football at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama. His father was also his high school football coach, making his coaching position a dream come true. Rivers attributes his strong faith to his upbringing by his parents, Steve and Joan Rivers. He emphasizes the importance of spirituality, physicality, emotions, and academics in the development of young men at the Catholic high school.

Despite his demanding football career, Rivers prioritizes his faith and never misses Sunday Mass. This commitment showcases the unwavering nature of his beliefs. When Rivers married Tiffany Goodwin in 2001, they were both under 20 years old. Before their marriage, he sought consent from both families and his football coach. The couple, who were middle school sweethearts, also made the decision for Tiffany to convert to Catholicism a day before their wedding.

The couple's first child, Halle, was born in 2002 while Rivers was still in college, two years before he entered professional football. Since then, they have welcomed eight more children into their family, with their names and ages in 2023 listed as Halle (21), Caroline (18), Grace (17), Gunner (15), Sarah (13), Peter (12), Rebecca (9), Clare (7), and Anna (4). The upcoming addition will have the largest age gap among their siblings.

Rivers' commitment to his faith extends beyond his personal life. From 2010 to 2012, he and his wife oversaw the 'Rivers of Hope Foundation,' which aimed to support foster children. They collaborated with San Pasqual Academy, an educational institution for foster teens, and raised over a million dollars through activities such as football camps and a 5K Fun Run.
