Former LSU Star, Danielle Ballard: A Recap of Her Journey

Former LSU basketball star Danielle Ballard dies in car accident.

Former Louisiana State Fighting Tigers basketball star Danielle Ballard tragically passed away at the age of 29 after being involved in a car accident in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM when Ballard was crossing an intersection and was struck by a car.

Following the collision, Ballard was in critical condition and was immediately transported to Regional One Hospital by a rescue team. Unfortunately, the hospital later announced her passing.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene while the Memphis Police Department initiated an investigation. As of now, no criminal charges have been announced by the MPD.

Upon learning of Ballard's death, her alma mater, LSU, expressed their deep sadness through a Twitter post, acknowledging her significant contribution to the program and the women's basketball family. They also expressed their condolences to her family and friends.

During her time at LSU, Danielle Ballard played three seasons for the Fighting Tigers, participating in 81 games. She showcased her skills, averaging 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.1 steals, and 2.9 assists per game.

Ballard's exceptional performance in her junior year led to her selection for the All-SEC first-team and being named the school's MVP. In 2014, she played a pivotal role in leading the team to the Sweet 16, where she averaged an impressive 23.3 points per game and 12.3 rebounds per game.

Following her successful junior year, Danielle Ballard made the decision not to return for her senior year. Although somewhat unexpected, her choice was not entirely surprising.

Prior to her junior season, Ballard faced a suspension for reportedly violating team rules, resulting in her missing the first 14 games of the 2014-15 season. LSU coach Nikki Caldwell chose not to disclose specific details regarding the incident, initially suspending Ballard indefinitely.

Despite her delayed start to the season, Ballard showcased her best performance for the Fighting Tigers during her junior year.
