In an interview with The Guardian, Cillian Murphy, who plays J Robert Oppenheimer in the highly anticipated film, Oppenheimer, revealed that he had to undergo "chemistry tests" with co-star Florence Pugh before filming the movie's prolonged nudity scenes. The film centers around the relationship between Oppenheimer, a nuclear scientist, and Jean Tatlock, a psychiatrist and physician portrayed by Pugh. Murphy admitted that while he understood the need for chemistry tests, he found the process to be "outrageously silly." However, he acknowledged that sometimes there is an unexplainable spark between actors that determines their on-screen chemistry.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is expected to feature rare sex and relationship plotlines, including nude scenes between Murphy and Pugh. This marks a departure from Nolan's previous films, making Oppenheimer a unique addition to his filmography. The movie has received an R rating in the US, the first of Nolan's films to do so since Insomnia in 2002. In the UK, it has been rated 15 for strong language and sex. The inclusion of sexuality, nudity, and language contributed to the R rating in the US.
