According to Janie, Rudy's family members attempted to communicate with him, but he could only utter a few words before curling up in a fetal position. At the time, Rudy had been diagnosed with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety, which may have contributed to his decision to run away.

Tragically, Rudy's brother had passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2011. Rudy always wore his late sibling's necklace, and he was still wearing it when he was discovered outside the church. It is worth noting that Rudy's family had contacted the Houston Police in September 2018, claiming that he was living behind a relative's home, but he was not found at that time.

X described horrific conditions, claiming that Rudy was forced to sleep in his mother's bed and fulfill the role of a husband. When Rudy returned home after his initial escape, he was coerced into hiding to avoid arrest. X further alleged that Janie would conceal Rudy whenever authorities visited and take him to work with her.

Rudy reportedly told authorities that he did not want his mother to face consequences or go to jail. When asked about his reasons for running away, he expressed frustration with his mother's disregard for his boundaries and a desire for independence. In his own words, Rudy said, "I was tired of living like a slave." As of now, Rudy's family has not responded to these allegations.
